RabbitMQ descended me to Erlang recently.

I was surprised to learn that WhatsApp is coded in Erlang to transact billions of messages reliably every day and even more to know that Erlang is proven to have nine-nine uptime.

My curiosity leads me to compare Google Trends for Erlang with WhatsApp and RabbitMq.

Erlang and WhatsApp

Hmm. Erlang does not even seem to pulsate.

Erlang and RabbitMQ

RabbitMQ outgrew Erlang in popularity already.

So No Hero’s song for Erlang!!

Erlang — the real-time concurrency engine behind
the fastest growing message broker — RabbitMQ,
world’s most preferred instant messanger WhatsApp,
and behind many critical core modules written for financial, telecom, IoT messaging etc

The blog here suggested Erlang as one of the worst languages not to learn in 2019, considering the community engagement, growth, and job market.

Hang on a second.

Something smells fishy here...

There is some gross misunderstanding. Originally written around late 1980, the language is as alive and kicking as any other newborn language.

Lets do some treasure hunting..

To be continued...
